Originally from both Nevada City and San Francisco, California, Dr. Cogley received his Bachelor of Arts degree from San Francisco State University in 2002 with a major in International Relations and a minor in African Area Studies. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University in 2013. He is currently an Associate Professor of Political Science at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX, USA.  He is also a proud husband and father of three wonderful kids.

He proudly served the United States of America as Senior Advisor to the Office of the Deputy Secretary of Commerce (April 2020 to July 2020)  and Deputy Director for Policy at the U.S. Census Bureau (July 2020 to January 2021).  In terms of the decennial census, he believes it should be more accurate, more transparent, and more lawful than it currently is, and that communications from the Bureau and their allies in the media should be more honest.  He believes that much of the Census Bureau’s decennial methodology is illegal, and would be found by the current Supreme Court to be illegal, if there was sufficient transparency for States and local jurisdictions to have the comparative information they need to prove harm, and thus standing, in court.
